Summerfield Students Learn About Fire Safety
by Julia Fischer
The students at Summerfield Elementary visited the Summerfield Fire Department to learn about fire safety and what to do if there is a fire. The students were told to find safe routes out of their houses in case of fire and to stay low to the ground to prevent smoke from entering their lungs. The volunteers at the fire department talked to the students about being safe around fires and how to call for help if there is a fire. Then they took the students outside to see their fire trucks. Some of the students were allowed to climb up into the truck to turn on the siren. Other students had a chance to hold the fire hose and spray water out of it. The kids had a great time and had a chance to learn and review the things they need to know to stay safe. Thank you, Summerfield Fire Department!
