Wetmore 2nd Graders Produce Movies Using iPads
Wetmore 2nd graders in Mrs. Joyce Stallbaumer's classroom recently became movie producers and actors! With the support of district technology integrationist Lisa Suhr, the class used the district's set of student iPads and the Puppet Pals app to create a movie of a readers' theater script they had been practicing. The slideshow on the right is of pictures of the students working on the project ,and links to the four movies the class produced are at the end of the article.
During readers' theater productions, readers read from a "script," and reading parts are divided among the readers. No memorization, costumes,or special lighting is needed. Scripts are held by the readers, and lines are not memorized. The focus is on reading the text with expressive voices and gestures.
Before Mrs. Suhr arrived with the iPads, the second graders practiced their scripts, and planned what characters they'd need to "make" using the iPad's camera. On the day of the production, Mrs. Suhr gave the class a quick lesson on using the Puppet Pal app, and the dramatic work began. Students spent some time experimenting and practicing, and then got busy making their final productions which you can see below.
Any teacher in any USD 113 building may request to work with these student iPads!
