Early Childhood Development & Services

This pathway focuses on the careers relating to meeting the needs of children (birth to age five), be they providers in home, community, educational or institutional settings. The coursework includes child growth and development, nutrition, recreation, planning and supervising learning activities; child abuse and neglect prevention, working with parents and the legal and administrative requirements of the field.

· Introductory level: (offered at SMS)

  • Career & Life Planning (.5 credit)

· Technical Level:

  • Human Growth & Development (.5 credit)
  • Family Studies  (.5 credit)
  • Leadership Service in Action (.5 credit)
  • Foundations of Early Childhood (1 credit)

· Application Level:

  • Early Childhood Application (1 credit)
  • Career and Community Connections (.5 credit)

Articulation agreements allow for students to apply credits earned in a specific program from one institution and transfer them into another institution. So students at Sabetha High School may complete this pathway and then receive credit from one of the following colleges:  Barton County, Cloud County, Highland Community College, Pittsburg State University, or Washburn University.
