Two students from Wetmore High School attended the National SADD Conference in Chicago over the summer. Jennifer Scott and Josh Ballenger, along with SADD sponsor Michelle Strube and Trisha Schulte, a student from B&B High School who is also a member of SADD, traveled to the Windy City for the big event.
SADD- Students Against Destructive Decisions- is an organization that encourages teens to make good decisions and act responsibly. The National SADD Conference is held in a new city each year, and is intended to bring SADD members from all over the country together to motivate and gain ideas from one another to better their schools and communities.
“It was a fun and new experience. I met a lot of inspiring people and made many new friends”, said Jennifer.
While at the conference, SADD members participate in workshops, listen to guest speakers, and go site seeing. Among some of these sites is America’s Largest Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, and the Sears Tower on the coast of Lake Michigan. “It stood tall and proud over the city of Chicago, symbolizing the pride and power of the Chicagoans”, reminisces Josh of the soaring building. Overall, the National SADD Conference was an awesome and moving experience for both Jennifer and Josh. Josh said “I loved the sites and meeting the people that were there. They were really cool and inspiring. I hope to go back next year.”
