2019/2020 Yearbook Staff

The students in the Composition for Publication-Technology class, which is also known as Yearbook, have one main focus: to produce the best book they can while telling the story of the year. The students must work together to accomplish this feat. The yearbook is a student publication, so there are often errors, but the staff tries their best to make a great book. The staff also gathers photos and puts together the slideshows that are shown during the athletic banquet and graduation ceremony. In addition, staff members supply photos for the hallways downstairs at Sabetha High School, the board of education office, the district website, the local newspaper, the USD #113 Foundation, and others (upon request and when time is available). The yearbooks are not sold for enoughmoney to cover the cost of the books, and the yearbook staff also raises funds for their camera equipment. They raise funds through book sales, homecoming corsage sales, working concessions, and other various fundraisers.

The designer's primary job is creativity. The designer must have an eye for gooddesign (this is often something that cannot be taught). A designer works with the other team members to determine the theme (verbal and visual) of the yearbook.He/she is responsible for carrying out that theme through the book;creating interesting and aesthetically pleasing layouts on pages; maintaining consistency throughout; obtaining information and quotes from others; placing pictures, graphics, captions/copy on pages; and meeting deadlines provided by the editor. Because the designer position is very creative, he/she needs to be vocal about thoughts/ideas pertaining to the book. The designer uses technology (Yeartech Online and Adobe Photoshop) to create the book. The photographer's primary job is to take pictures of all activities and events. The photographer should love to take pictures and be willing to dedicate the time to be at many activities, especially those in which he/she is not involved. After photos are taken on a digital camera, the photographer downloads those photos to the computer, uses Adobe Photoshop to correct any errors (darkness, red eye, etc.), and uploads photos to the Yeartech Online website. Photographers are also responsible for scanning items needed to complete the yearbook (baby portraits, signatures, etc.).
