Julie Lane

Position:  6-12 ELA

Julie Lane is an experienced ELA middle and high school teacher with a passion for reading and literacy. She has a B.S. and M.A. from KSU, a B G.S. from Wichita State University, and an Education Specialist degree from FHSU in Leadership in Reading. She is qualified as a reading specialist in addition to certification in 5th - 12th ELA.

Julie has 25 years of experience as a technical writer and transitioned to teaching because one of her now-grown children experienced dyslexia without a diagnosis or support in an urban public school system. Now the State of Kansas is more proactive about addressing dyslexia and the Science of Reading, which is exciting for the nearly one in five kids with reading difficulties. Julie helps youth and adults with reading difficulties as a volunteer, in addition to volunteering as the director of the Vermillion Public Library.

Julie loves British detective fiction and television, Dr. Pepper, and learning new dance moves that make her grown children, nieces, and nephews cringe. She loves to paint, garden, write creatively, and sing. She is now attempting to learn woodworking, although her natural abilities might be lacking a bit (please count Julie's fingers on a weekly basis to make sure there are ten).

Julie resides with her son Jonathan and her cat, Holly, in Axtell.
