Bus Behavior Codes

The following rules are adopted by the Board of Education in compliance with K.S.A. 72-8302 and Board of Education Policy and Rule JGG and JGG-R.  They are intended for the safety of passengers.  These rules apply for regular routes and for activity trips.  Failure to abide by the rules may cause suspension of riding privileges.

  1. Sit quietly in your seat.  Talk only in a soft manner.  Visit only with those in your seat.  No standing or moving about while bus is in motion.

  1. Do not talk to the driver while the bus is moving unless it is an emergency situation.

  1. Obey immediately all commands of the driver.

  1. Keep arms, legs, and other objects out of the aisle.

  1. Do not tease or provoke other passengers.

  1. Be on time! The bus cannot wait for those who are tardy.

  1. Get permission before opening a window.  Do not stick anything or throw anything out of the window.

  1. Do not use vulgar or offensive language or gestures.

  1. The driver may assign a seat to each pupil.  Assigned seats may be used for disciplinary actions by the driver.

  1. Pupils must not throw waste paper or other rubbish on the floor of the bus.

  1. Any damage to the bus must be reported at once to the driver.

  1. When leaving the bus, pupils must observe the directions of the driver.  If you cross the road, do so in front of the bus on the signal of the driver.

  1. All pupils must wait for the bus off the traveled portion of the road.  Stand clear when the bus approaches.

Bus drivers, in collaboration with administration, may suspend a student from riding privileges by informing the parents by phone or in person of the incident which led to the suspension.  Written notification of the suspension must follow with copies sent to parents, the superintendent, and the transportation supervisor.

Repeated or flagrant violations of the rules will be reported to the superintendent for further disciplinary action which may include permanent suspension of riding privileges.  Written notification will be given to parents whenever disciplinary action is taken.  Opportunity will be given to students or parents to rebut or explain the violation of the rules.

Questions concerning the “bus behavior code” should be directed to the transportation supervisor or the superintendent.
